Hands-on Hundred Overview
Back for the 12th year…Penton Media is offering a limited number of attendees the opportunity to fully experience The Special Event 2013 by joining the Hands-on Hundred program.  Attendees commit to volunteer a minimum of ten hours (2 five-hour shifts) on the set-up, on-site logistics and tear down for the social events related to this conference and trade show.

This program is a learning and hands-on experience.  You will meet other participants, sponsors, committee chairs and staff from around the world.  If you are new to the industry, looking for a different experience at the show, or just want to help out on-site… this program is for you!

Hands-On Hundred (HOH) Program Package includes:

Mandatory training session
During this hour and half session we will walk through the details of the conference, answer any questions you may have prior to your work shifts, you will meet your team leaders, as well as pick up your shirt, transportation schedule, and HOH credentials

Open times for returning HOH participants to come pick up their materials from Kari Strolberg, CSEP, at the Show Office.  If you would like to attend the First Timer session to meet the new HOH participants/team leaders you are more than welcome to come on Monday.  But that training session is mandatory for returning participants.

The Process
The process is fairly simple.  We take the first 100 participants that register!  There is not an application process – we take whoever would like to join the team up to a certain registration number.  Once the participant is paid – their name is sent to the HOH Manager, Kari Strolberg, CSEP who will make sure each team member is allotted into their two required shifts.

The assignment of shifts will be done before the participants arrive onsite.  Once each participant is listed on the HOH roster, Kari will email them a survey that asks for contact information and also lists all the open shifts.  Shifts are assigned on a first-come-first-serve basis.  So you can choose the shifts that work around the educational sessions and events you wish to attend.

Confirmations are sent by email on your assignments.  At the training session you will receive your credentials and sportswear.

Tickets to the Social Events
Tickets to the social events are not included in the Hands-On Hundred Program.  If you would like to see the events – you can sign up to work the events (if slots are still open at the time of your registration).  But if you want to enjoy the evening without working – please feel free to purchase tickets for the social events and we will find you shifts that work around the tickets you have bought.

Work Assignments
Most assignments are focused around the social events that take place at The Special Event.  These events include TSE Starts Here, Opening Night Celebration, Opening General Session, The Wedding Event, Masters Brunch, and the Gala Awards and Celebration.  Job assignments include, but are not limited to:
•    Event set-up (including placing linens, arranging tables, helping with décor, etc.)
•    Event clean-up
•    Event ticketing, wrist-banding, greeting, program distribution and transportation
•    Assisting the floral designers
•    Assisting photographers
•    Serving as entertainment elements of the social events

Fulfillment of Ten Hours of Work
It is critical that all Hands-On Hundred participants fully commit to and perform a minimum of 10 hours of volunteer work as assigned by our managers.  This breaks down to 2 five-hour shifts.  All hours will be tracked and recorded.

In the event that the hours are not fulfilled, the attendee will be charged the full price of the Educational Package ($810 value) and an additional $25 for credentials and sportswear.

Hands-On Hundred:  Is it for me?
The Hands-On Hundred was designed for the attendee that wants to get involved in The Special Event and connect to the industry leaders that chair our committees.  It is a learning experience and best suited for those who want to work behind-the-scenes, professionals new to the industry or individuals who do not mind digging in and helping make the events happen on-site.  This is not a way to get a discount to the show and its parties.  Penton Media reserves the right to refuse any applicant if they do not cooperate with the program rules.

Final Note:
The HOH program is a great way to meet new people, try new things and work in a new environment.  The jobs that the HOH team fulfills for the event Chairs are integral in the production of our world-class events.  It is not always “glamorous” work but it is necessary and we appreciate everyone who helps us out.
